Student Population Changes

The average student population over the last 11 years is 29,525 where 28,467 students are attending the school for the academic year 2024-2025.

80.76% of total students is undergraduate students and 19.24% students is graduate students. The number of undergraduate students has decreased by 2,125 and the graduate enrollment has increased by 1,571 over past 10 years.

The female to male ratio is 1.68 to 1 and it means that there are more female students enrolled in NAU than male students.

Enrollment by Race/Ethnicity Changes

The percentage of white students is 50.06%. The percentage was 60.77% 10 years ago and NAU still has a high percentage of white students. 4.08% of enrolled students is Asian and 3.03% is black students. Hispanic students comprise 24.99% of the student body.

Over the past 10 years, the racial composition has shifted. The percentage of white students decreased from 60.77% to 50.06%. Asian enrollment grew from 1.81% to 4.08%. Black student enrollment decreased from 3.26% to 3.03%. Hispanic student representation expanded from 20.75% to 24.99%.

The overall racial diversity, measured by the Census Bureau Diversity Index, is 0.6800 which indicates that moderately diverse. This increased from 0.5828 a decade ago, suggesting that racial diversity has improved.
