41,799 Criminal Offenses Occured at U.S. College Campuses

For the calendar year 2023, 41,799 criminal offenses occured at U.S. colleges. The crimial offenses rate per 1,000 students is 0.53 at U.S college campues.

Of the 32,402 total on-campus criminal offenses at U.S. colleges,

  • There were 29 murders, including Non-negligent manslaughter In addition, there were 2 negligent manslaughter on college campuses.
  • There were 10,445 sexual assault incluing rape, fondling, incest, and statutory rape. The sexual assault crime rate per 1,000 students is 0.13 at college campuses.
  • There were 636 robberies, and the robbery crime rate per 1,000 students is 0.01 at college campuses.
  • There were 2,731 aggravated assaults, and the aggravated assaults crime rate per 1,000 students is 0.03 at college campuses.
  • There were 6,991 burglary, and the burglary crime rate per 1,000 students is 0.09 at college campuses.
  • There were 10,898 motor vehicle theft, and the motor vehicle theft rate per 1,000 students is 0.14 at college campuses.
  • There were 672 arson, and the arson crime rate per 1,000 students is 0.01 at college campuses.

For all criminal offenses, there were 32,402 on-campus, 3,310 non-campus, 6,087 public property, and 11,090 residence hall criminal offenses occured last year. (The number for on-campus criminal offenses includes residence hall criminal offenses).
