2025 College Tuition Increased by 2.79% at Public, 3.50% at Private Schools

The average 2025 tuition & fees of College is $9,118 for state residents and $19,568 for out-of-state students. In private schools, the average tuition is $30,866.

For graduate schools, the average graduate tuition is $11,793 for state residents and $21,274 for out-of-state students. In private graduate schools, the average tuition is $19,918.

Compared to last year, the 2025 undergraduate tuition & fees has increased by 2.79% in public schools and 3.50% in private schools. The graduate school tuition & fees has increased by 1.59% in public schools and 2.52% in private schools.

U.S. Colleges 2025 Tuition Changes By State

The below table shows the 2025 Tuition Changes by State. For the tuition statistics, we include only 4-years colleges such as national universities and liberal arts colleges, but exclude community colleges and trade/vocational schools.

South Dakota colleges has the lowest undergraduate tuition & fees of $9,883 and Virginia colleges has the highest tuition & fees of $35,322 for the academic year 2024-2025.

For graduate schools, North Dakota has the lowest graduate program tuition & fees of $10,806 and Hawaii has the highest graduate tuition of $30,806.
