2022 Tuition Increased by 1.41% at Public, 2.09% at Private Schools

The average 2022 tuition & fees of U.S. Colleges is $8,864 for state residents and $18,964 for out-of-state students. In private schools, the average tuition is $28,235. For graduate schools, the average graduate tuition is $10,928 for state residents and $20,292 for out-of-state students. In private graduate schools, the average tuition is $19,360.

Compared to last year, the 2022 undergraduate tuition & fees has increased by 1.41% in public schools and 2.09% in private schools. The graduate school tuition & fees has increased by 0.24% in public schools and 0.93% in private schools.

U.S. Colleges 2022 Tuition Changes By State

The below table shows the 2022 Tuition Changes by State. For the tuition statistics, we include only 4-years colleges such as national universities and liberal arts colleges, but exclude community colleges and trade/vocational schools. Puerto Rico colleges has the lowest undergraduate tuition & fees of $5,257 and Virginia colleges has the highest tuition & fees of $33,136 for academic year 2021-2022. For graduate school, Puerto Rico has the lowest graduate program tuition & fees of $5,356 and Hawaii has the highest graduate tuition of $30,806.
